What is a Day in the Life Journey Map?
Day in the Life Journey Map is meant to reveal what a person does, feels, and thinks on a typical day. It is a variation of the Customer Journey Map. The difference is Day in the Life looks at a typical day of a human regardless of whether they interact with your product or organization. It’s really all about them.
While Customer Journey Maps are typically used for user experience and product design processes, more often now marketing and branding teams are employing this exercise. Our Intuitive Guide to Customer Journey Mapping is a good intro to dive into this exercise.
A day in the Life Customer Journey Map can inform two strategic moves:
- Identify the best time and an ideal channel to come into a customer’s radar. Decide when to post social media content, when to send newsletters, which advertising channels to bid on, etc. Timing is everything! It’s a good tool to include in your Content Marketing stack.
- Discover new product and market opportunities by analyzing a target audience’s daily routines, pain points, problems to solve, and desires to fulfill. This is particularly relevant for the budding stages of a startup company. Even more so to revisit while reshaping business strategic moves.
How to create a Day in the Life Journey Map?
- Fill out a brief section about your Persona. Click and upload a representative picture of your Persona and type a name for them. This title may include their archetype or the generation they belong to. For example “GenX Explorer,” or “Working Millennial Mother.”
Quick Xtensio tip: Browse free images in Pexels’ integrated image collection. Add what you like to your library to use on various documents.
- Add a quote that captures this person’s mindset. Tap into market research or user Interviews you may have conducted earlier. Another framework that can help you dive deeper into the emotions here is the Empathy Map.
- Add hours of the day to set a rough schedule. This could go from daytime to nighttime, only cover the working hours of a person, or focus on their weekends depending on the day you would like to analyze.
- In the cells write quick keywords about this person’s actions, feelings, places they go, and goals they have.
Quick Xtensio tip: Use the icon library to add visuals for these interactions such as devices they interact with.
